Having Problems With The Links To Your Videos?
Verdi July 29th, 2005
In the previous versions of Freevlog we had you follow the links to your videos until you got the media to play all by itself in the browser window and then grab the link from the address bar. This turned out to be bad advice! We’re really sorry about that! You may have noticed that many or all of your videos are now offline (ours too!). So what’s the deal and how can you fix all those broken links? Well, Ourmeida and the Internet Archive actually give you a URL that automatically forwards to wherever your video is at the time. They do this because sometimes (like yesterday) it’s necessary for them to move things around. We were having you get the URL to the place where the video was the day you uploaded it. Now they’ve moved it and your link doesn’t work. So in order to fix this you need to go back and edit the video URL in your blog post.
So, your old and broken links should look something like this:
The correct link should look like this:
So all you have to do is edit the first part of the URL. In other words, change the part that says “http://ia300130.us.archive.org/0/items” to “http://www.archive.org/download”. This will fix your videos.
Now how do you keep this from happening in the future? Just follow this new version of the “Step 4: Publish Your Video” tutorial.
As always, you can email us if you’re having trouble. Ryanne and I will be on the road over the weekend (Ryanne is presenting at the BlogHer conference) but we’ll try to respond ASAP.
