New Vlog: Next To Heaven

Ryanne October 9th, 2006

Next To Heavenclick here to download

Next To Heaven is the brain child of Hopper Video’s Rob Parrish. We’ve been huge fans of Rob’s videoblog since day one. He seems to know how to capture the artistically creepy-cool and bottle it up into video form for all to enjoy. Next To Heaven is a 52 week series, yes 52 weeks, of Archive.org found film footage mash-ups. Rob is collaborating with music making pal, Matt Sargent, to bring vintage slices of disfunctional filmic life to the masses. Rock on dude.

New Vlog: Video Pancakes

Ryanne September 27th, 2006

Video Pancakes comes to us via Mary Matthews, a Manhattan Neighborhood Network expat and comic genius. This is her timely document of the last days of (her employment and) The Tony Danza Show. We like Mary. She’s funny and smart and finally making videos, putting them on a blog and distributing them through RSS 2.0 with enclosures. What more could you want in a person?

New Vlog: Vlog In Iran

Vlog In Iran

Paris Marashi is a graduate student at NYU’s ITP program where vlogging is taught as a regular class. She started to videoblog while home in Iran for the summer. As you can see in this video, she’s also started teaching videoblogging (with the help of Freevlog!). We are so excited to see Paris videoblogging life’s moments in Iran and even more so because she’s teaching others to videoblog as well. This is the perfect example of how we can begin to really connect with other cultures through personal media on the web. Check out her personal vlog- This Iranian American Life and her collaborative teaching blog Vlog In Iran.

New Vlog: FLUSH TV

Ryanne August 21st, 2006

FLUSH TVclick here to download

Jennifer, creator of FLUSH TV wrote to us to say:

“Truth be told, I’ve been developing this show for years — and it actually was optioned by a production company who pitched it to a bunch of places(Discovery Channel, HGTV, TLC …). When push came to shove, no one signed on to buy it, the option ended and I hit a real wall. …. Until I was introduced to the world of vlogging and I saw a completely different way of distributing my show. Although I’m not making money from it (yet) it feels so great to be editing content with complete creative control vs. arguing with lawyers over who gets top billing.”

We’re glad it’s a Vlog and not a TV show! Thanks Jennifer!

New Vlog: Roboshithead

Ryanne May 24th, 2006

Roboshithead is one of my favorite shows from Manhattan Neighborhood Network. One of the Producers, Chuck Stern, is a good friend of Jay’s and was finally convinced to start a videoblog after months of us pushing him. This episode is a classic. I think it’s creepy that one character is named ‘Jame’. Roboshithead borrows the best of cinema techniques to bring you these creepy DV vinettes. Enjoy!

This is a video from poetryvlog.com. In his email to us, Michael, the creator explained, “As an adult I appreciate vlogs that entertain and enlighten, and having owned with my wife a secondhand/antiquarian bookshop for a few decades, it was clear to me that vlogging is the perfect internet medium for the presentation and celebration of poets and their poetry…Here you will see and hear Rhonda Ward recite her poem “Legacy”. She is the only poet so far to recite her reading on the site. She has a remarkable presence before the camera, and you can view the video as often as you please.” Enjoy!

New Vlog: Video Bloggin’ in Beantown

Video Bloggin' in Beantown Click here to download

This video is by Matty from his vlog Video Bloggin’ in Beantown. In his email to us he said, “I am a soon to graduate senior from Massart in Boston. I got the vlogging bug from Ryanne Hodson when she did a presentation in my streaming video class. I figured this would be a great way for me to get some of my work up on the web. This definitely best describes the work I have been doing as of late.”

This one is fun.

New Vlog: Empress Of Spring

Verdi May 1st, 2006

Empress Of Spring Click here to download

This is a video by Mellisa from her vlog Empress of Spring. In her email to us she said, “When I started posting vlogs a few months ago, my blog readership almost vanished completely… But I don’t really care what the readership does. I know there’s something very compelling to me about vlogs and I know I want to express myself that way and see how others vlog as well. Even if the party is still quite small. Or maybe because it is.” And about this particular video she said, “My father died from colon cancer that very likely could have been stopped by early detection. [This video] was done very quickly with my daughter in a light-hearted attempt to encourage my adult siblings to start having annual colonoscopies.”

I would imagine that this video was very successful in that regard.

New Vlog: rusted gate

Verdi April 24th, 2006

made.up Click here to download

This video is by Joanna Dillon from her vlog rusted gate. In her email to us she had this to say about choosing this video, “It’s really hard to choose one video to represent you… especially if your style or purpose is just coming clear… not to mention technical prowess. While this video may be the scariest video to put up because I’m still quite camera shy, I think it’s interesting because I had been taping things I did daily… the usual. This was about something I rarely do. I also like the music to feature just as much as the video, and I think this was a nice pair. It also generated the most comments I’ve ever had, so I must have gotten something across!”

I really like blown out black and white look of the video. It makes it so that you can’t really see the makeup - just it’s affect on her.
